Rating:: 5 Peaks & #1 Family Friendly Restaurant in NH by the Lodge

We send more families with children to the Red Fox than to virtually any other restaurant in the Valley. The menu is large and varied … and there is something here for everyone – from the staunchest meat-and-potatoes man to our own all-vegetarian family. My favorite is the Cucumber and Tomato Salad and the Onion Soup. The wood-fired pizzas are crispy and outstanding, and during the off-season, you’ll find that Tuesdays are “Two pizzas for the price of one.”

Families are happy to know that a small pail of crayons awaits busy fingers at the table, and that there is a ‘little people’s’ movie theater and a Brio train room for restless diners and hasty eaters. Despite the enormous volume of guests that they serve, you’ll find that the service is very good and the restaurant clean. Oddly, there is not usually much of a wait for food or attention at your table, the kitchen and dining room staff are a well-oiled machine. The Red Fox does not take reservations, however, so during peak seasons, there is almost always a wait to be seated. It’s best not to go right at 6:00, as the contents of Story Land’s parking lots all make a mass exodus, emptying themselves into The Red Fox lots simultaneously. It is a very popular place. Not traveling with small children? Don’t let the emphasis on ‘family dining’ turn you off. You can hide yourself away from tired parents and hungry children in the Red Fox’ spacious sports bar, where you can have a drink, watch the latest game on the wide-screen plasma TVs and eat heartily, in relative seclusion. This is not “fine dining”, but the food is good and well-prepared. Prices are moderate, but be aware that the cost can creep up quickly with various add-ons, such as beverages, drinks, side orders, etc. Even so, the Red Fox is a very good choice for dining out, and they even have a “Take-Out” menu. They are also open for lunch on weekends, and have a fabulous All-You-Can-Eat Brunch buffet with live jazz on Sundays from 7:30 – 1 for $7.95. The Red Fox is open at 4 pm daily, and at noon for lunch on weekends
