One of the institutions of the Jackson eating and drinking trade, the Shannon Door Pub is a long-time family-run establishment known for its lively conversation, live entertainment and traditional Irish pub atmosphere. Located on the hill diagonally across from the Lodge (and within an easy walk of 2 minutes or less), the nightly specialty of this pub is its award-winning thin crust pizza which the Mulkern family has been turning out since 1953. The meals are extremely informal and modest, so don’t go expecting fine dining. Food is served on Styrofoam plates, but even so, it is a highly popular hangout.

As vegetarians, we are pretty hard-pressed to find anything to eat but the homemade pizza and Greek salad, but those are good and most people who go love the food. Shannon Door guests either love it or hate it … and it has a very loyal following of locals as well as return visitors. Live entertainment is featured Thursday through Sunday nights and it definitely gets rather lively there on weekends. Families with small children abound early in the evening, after which the clientele switches to an all-adult drinking crowd. It has been known to get rather rowdy.

This pub was the filming location of the film “The Return of the Secaucus Seven” featuring 2006 Academy Award nominee David Strathairn and NYPD Blue star Gordon Clap. The Shannon Door does not accept credit cards … it’s strictly cash on the barrel.
